Fugly Dress

Your favorite store bombards you with emails advertising a sale. You’re looking at pieces you normally would not purchase and start thinking how could I style this? It’s kind of ugly but it’s also kind of cute. The sale anxiety kicks in and BOOM, purchased! You receive your sale haul of unnecessary items only to realize that questionable item is really ugly AF and should have been left in the clearance section. However, you toss it in a corner and leave it to sit past the point of no return. Trust me, we have all been there.

Ladies and gentlemen I am a proud owner of a Pepto Bismol pink fugly (f****** ugly) dress. I bought this dress from ASOS June/July 2018. It was on super sale and when it arrived I understood why. Although I was skeptical of the dress prior to purchasing, I envisioned a Paris Fashion Week hipster chic Pinterest inspired moment with this dress. See pictures below from one of my Pinterest inspo boards.

What do you do with a fugly dress that you can’t return? Add a jacket (cover it!!) and some boots! Accessorize and flow with the fugly.

I decided to go with an edgy vibe and pair the dress with a faux leather black jacket with a shearling collar from Target, leather pearl strapped booties from Zara, black and silver chandelier earrings, and a snakeskin chained bag from Express. I was pleased with this look and transformation of the dress. I think it would also look cute with a denim jacket, sandals or sneakers, hoop earrings, and a head wrap or cap for either a sporty or bohemian look.

If you’re curious about the location of this shoot, I was spending some quality time with my sister Korin on her spring break. We trekked to Annapolis for some outdoor exploration and of course photos. Our first stop was a really cute coffee shop; Rise Up Coffee. My caramel latte and almond croissant were was amazing. It’s a nice welcoming environment for a coffee date or meeting. Check out some of the photos I snapped of the inside and menu below.

Have you ever purchased a fugly item? What did you do with it? If you kept it, how did you style it? Until next time lovelies, live life fashionably!
