Beat Less: Makeup w/Only 3 Products
I am posting pictures without any makeup. DON’T BE ALARMED. No one jumped me for my makeup bag. LOL. On most days you can find me fresh faced sporting my spectacles pictured above.
I love makeup, the artistry behind it, and the enhancing results. However, I hate that society has conditioned us to think we need so much of it. Layers and layers of makeup. Contour. Highlight. Powder. Liquid. Sprays. DIS TEW MUCH.
I love the beautiful results of getting my makeup done for a shoot or occasion but I HATE all of the gunk on my face. It makes me feel like I’m wearing a mask. When I do my own makeup I aim for a natural dewy look but in my head I’m still thinking I need foundation, subtle contour, slight highlight, blush, brows, lashes, etc. Keep in mind I’m far from a MUA although I try my hardest to replicate my favorite YouTube gurus.
I have a ton of products but I rarely put on makeup because I subscribe to the “ain’t nobody got time for that method.” At most I have on a lip. Anyone who knows me know that I’m a lipstick/gloss fanatic. I believe a great lip color can elevate you from drab to fab.
They say “more is less” so I really wanted to test this out. Is more really less? Can you feel confident and look beautiful with only a few products? I challenged myself to only use 3 products for each look.
Look 1 (pictured above and below) is the result of only using concealer, mascara, and lipstick.
I have been wearing glasses since the tender age of 4 so I have dark marks on each side of my nose and I have some dark spots/hypermention on a areas on my face from acne scarring.
I do not feel comfortable wearing my contacts without ANY makeup.
I must say that only using the concealer on my dark spots and adding the red lip and mascara made me feel really confident and cute. I’d definitely rock this look during the sweltering summer months and as a quick 5 min and under routine.
*FYI- no filters or editing was performed to any of the pics posted on this blog. Only light and angles. Click on the photos to expand them.
To obtain this look I used MAC’s Studio Finish concealer in NW 45, Maybelline’s Great Lash mascara (celebrity makeup artist Joanna Simkin said on MyLeik Teele’s podcast that this old faithful is what all the industry MUA’s use behind the scenes during fashion shows and shoots), and my favorite red lip; NARS “Starwoman.”
What do you think of Look 1?
PS- Sis make sure you own a bomb red lip. It’ll change your life! My second fav tried and true red lip is Ruby Woo by MAC.
For Look 2 I wanted to amp it up a bit. You know, next level shit. LOL. I was feeling bohemie (yes I made that up) so I wanted to wear a light foundation, add brows, and of course, a lip.
Let’s talk about brows. I only have this *snaps* much brows. My brows have always been super thin and awkwardly shaped. For this reason I get them threaded maybe once or twice a year. I am past due for a shaping. My life goals are to really master doing my brows but they are so daggone problematic. Normally, my sparse eyebrow hairs can be concealed but 3 products only and concealer wasn’t one.
I filled my brows with MAC’s “Eye Brow Styler” in Spiked. I have been using this product for years and although they recently changed the formula and packaging, I still love it. I do prefer the older version because it offered more product but I like the added spoolie. It helps me “try” to maintain these brows.
For this look it’s all about Fenty Beauty baby! Like most, I absolutely love Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line. The Pro FiIt’r foundation is perfect for the makeup minimalist who wants coverage without the weight of a typical full coverage foundation. I recommend getting color matched at your local Sephora. There are so many tones and shades that you may not purchase the best shade for your skin tone without getting matched. I am wearing the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 420, along with, Stunna Lip Paint in Unveil.
How do you guys feel about Look 2? I love this look and it’s probably my fav. Btw, if you’re curious about the cute headband and earrings they both came from Target (DUH! Lol) and can be found here and here.
With Spring quickly approaching, I wanted to focus Look 3 on a bronzy soft look using only foundation, blush and a lip. If you guys haven’t noticed, the common denominator in all 3 looks have been a lip! I am a firm believer that lipstick alone can upgrade a basic face.
Currently I only rotate between two foundations; Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r pictured above and Lancomè’s Teint Idole Ultra Wear which I used in this look. I have been using it for a few years now and still LOVE it. I blogged about the foundation here.
For this look I incorporated blush. MAC’s “Sweet as Cocoa” blush has been a staple in my makeup bag and at this point I rarely wear any of my other blushes. As you can tell from the picture below, this blush and I have been through some thangs! However, I refuse to toss it or buy another until it’s gone. The color is great for brown girls aiming for a neutral dewy glow. Adding a little highlighter above it makes for a flawless pairing.
I finished the look with a poppin’ bright orange lip. If you don’t own any NYX soft matte lip creams you are missing out on a gem! I have so many NYX lip products overall but some of the best shades are in the matte lip cream collection. I am wearing the color “Morocco” which is currently sold out on the NYX website and Ulta doesn’t carry this shade so get it here while it’s still in stock!
Look 3 is fun and perfect for the warmer months. What do you think? Do you own any pretty bright orange lippies?
So guys is less really more? What do you think about condensing your routine? This post truly revealed to me that I don’t need a 15 step process. I won’t say I’ll commit to using only 3 products but I will adjust my regime.
